Welding Technology

Henderson County Welding program is continuing to keep up with the higher more advanced weld tech to enhance student’s ability to challenge their skills. Our goal is to make Henderson’s students highly educated and the most requested group due to their advanced progression in all the welding procedures.

There are three (3) levels of the welding course which students are enrolled in their sophomore, junior and senior years. Welding I is a course that is designed to provide them with an introduction, this is an exploratory course for them to determine if there is an interest in the welding trade. They will be trained in shop/ personal safety, basic SMAW and oxy/fuel processes. Welding II is designed to provide continuing experience opportunities in SMAW, GMAW and fabrication/blueprint reading which helps train the students for the industry. Welding III is designed to complete their training in GTAW with the opportunity to advance into the Co-op program. The Co-op program gives the student first hand experience in the industry; each student will be working during the time they would be in the class/shop. Students are required to keep a “C” grade average and have a 93% attendance to be in the program.

The welding students during their advance courses can be qualified tested in the 3 basic positions by successfully completing bend strength samples. Henderson County Welding students on the completion of three years in the class will receive dual credits from several of the local colleges. Students also will have the opportunity during their time to compete in local, district and state wide welding contest. Students are encouraged to take part during this time in SkillsUSA, a vocational organization.

The instructor is Don Horvath, “H” he has over 20 years experience in the welding field as technical representative, supervision and ownership. He has also earned his A.S in Career and Technical Education from Murray State University and working on his B.S degree. He has also studied and trained in all the welding processes with certification position bend test. He currently is working towards his CWI/CWE from American Welding Society. If you have more questions Please contact Don Horvath at ext.5202.
