Each year, Kentucky school boards consider and adopt property tax rates to support their school districts. This year, the proposed Henderson County Schools tax rate is 68.3 per $100 of assessed valuation, compared to the current rate of 68.2. If approved, a taxpayer would pay $1.00 more per $100,000 of home value. Please see examples in the graphic below:
The mission of Henderson County School is to provide extraordinary educational opportunities for every student. Our schools are thriving, and to continue our pursuit of excellence, the proposed tax rate will generate revenue that will support our mission now and in the future. Below are a few examples of our recent and ongoing investments:
Investing in School Safety
The safety of our students and staff remains one of our highest priorities. We are proud to have a School Resource Officer at every school, and we are continually evaluating additional ways to make our schools safer. Henderson County Schools use multiple security measures, including alert badges, weapons detection systems, security cameras, and safety & security window films.
Investing in Early Childhood Education
Henderson County Schools is expanding access to preschool by providing preschool opportunities in our four county schools, continuing to offer preschool at the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center, and utilizing our mobile preschool bus to reach more children and families.
We are investing in our youngest learners because we believe an investment in early childhood education is an investment in the future of Henderson County. We have also expanded childcare opportunities at our county schools, helping provide families with more opportunities for childcare.
Investment in Instruction
Henderson County Schools continues to invest in high-quality instruction and resources that support student achievement. A new math curriculum for grades K–8 is planned for purchase this year, followed by a new K–5 reading curriculum in the next two years.
Investing in Character
Academic success is important, but we also want our students to leave Henderson County Schools prepared to be good citizens, responsible leaders, and compassionate members of our community. Character education has been a priority identified by our community and industry leaders, and we are committed to making it a meaningful part of our students’ education.
That is why we continue to invest in CharacterStrong, a research-backed program that combines social-emotional learning and character education for students from Pre-K through high school.
Investing in Our Facilities
Many of our school buildings have served generations of Henderson County students. As those buildings age, they require significant investment.
We are addressing critical facility needs and making improvements designed to provide students and staff with safe, modern, and effective learning environments. A recent example is the renovation of East Heights Elementary School and the HVAC project at South Middle School.
At Henderson County Schools, we have always pursued excellence. Generations of students, educators, families, and community members have helped build a school system we can be proud of, and that commitment to excellence continues today.
We are committed to continuing that tradition of excellence by investing in where we can go tomorrow because our students and the future of Henderson County are worth the investment.
